Desjoyaux swimming pool renovation and liner replacement, San Roque, Cadiz

Desjoyaux swimming pool systems are a French made prefabricated pool kit that uses panels bolted together, then filled with concrete to form the shell. The installations are quite fast. The filtration is quite an all in one system, as everything is self contained in a step that hangs from the side of the pool, there is no separate pump house.

The pools however do look cheap and prefabricated, especially when they get older, in this case the pool owner was badly advised by a builder to tile the pool, as the original installtion was looking tired. This created a couple of problems, one being that the tiles won’t stick to the plastic panels properly, as cement based glues don’t work well with plastic surfaces because of the oils in the plastic. The second more important issue is that the pool leaks! The structure was never designed to be waterproof, so if tiled on top of, it will leak.

The filtration unit was looking terrible. So we came up with an innovative solution to make the pool look as good as possible, in an economical manner. The owner wanted a traditional filter box dug into the corner of the terrace and jets plumbed installed in one end of the pool and a skimmer in the other. This would have meant huge works, digging up the terrace to pass pipes through etc.

Our solution was to install a filter skimmer and one jet with a purpose made pump. All of this equipment fits in the small box level with the pool surround. The filter unit is hidden in the base of the skimmer. The filtration is highly efficient, as the jet low down, near the floor of the pool forces the whole body of water to spin so very little hoovering of the pool is needed.

We also built a bench/step in the pool. Full steps all the way down were not possible, because they would have taken too much room from the pool.

The main colour of the pool is Persia Sand from the Renolit AlkorPlan 3000 range, with TOUCH Sublime for the treads. The result is a pool that looks like it has been thought about, rather than a kit just put in place.

If you are considering works to your pool, the time to plan is now, so that everything can be done over the off season when you are not using the pool. That way any unexpected delays, from bad weather, transport strikes etc do not impact on the swimming season.

Stunning Infinity Pool Reform in Manilva, Malaga

This is a truly stunning transformation of an infinity / overflow swimming pool with epic views in Manilva. Manilva is located between Estepona and Sotogrande in Cadiz.

The swimming pool displayed usual problems. The glass mosaic tiles were falling off, the pool structure was leaking, the overflow channel was too high, obstructing the sea views from the terrace.

Our first part was to rectify the infinity pool overflow channel. We removed the 200mm high glass bricks and then built up the wall by 100mm. This was essential, so the infinity pool effect was not lost by seeing the opposite side of the channel from the terrace.

Once we changed the jets, drain and other fittings in the pool, we smoothed over the walls, repairing the damaged area, leaving everything smooth for the new Renolit Ceramics SELENE reinforced pool liner. The look of glass mosaic tiles, with non of the disadvantages.

The owner of this pool knows the quality of the Renolit range, as we renovated the 25m long pool at his hotel in Ronda the previous year.

The SELENE liner is a very pale grey, which once filled with water gives a beautiful blue colour, which contrasts well with the sky and the ocean. For the steps we used Renolit Touch VANITY, which is a white marble finish.

This stunning house was built by a world renowned British architect as his personal home. The house is located in Sotogrande, Cadiz and has stunning unobstructed views to North Africa and Gibraltar, the swimming pool forms an important part of the aesthetic of the house and the infinity edge of the pool blends into the horizon.

The villa has been built in a thoughtful manner with the swimming pool as the main focal point.

The architect wanted clean straight lines, so the pool was specified to be a solid colour. Initially, micro-cement was specified, but this gave many problems. The first application of the microcement started to flake away and the pool surfaces had to be recoated. After the second application of the micro cement, cracks appeared and sections started to flake away. These areas were patched andleft for a few years until a lasting solution could be found. As you can see from the photos below, the colour is dull and it looks very tired.

At this point, we were called in to install a Renolit AlkorPlan 2000 liner in Adriatic Blue. The colour is a stunning, vibrant blue. In comparison to the way the pool looked before, the transformation is truly stunning. The Renolit AlkorPlan liner is the perfect skin for any type of swimming pool, its smooth nature makes the maintenance easier and is guaranteed to be leak free.

Our range of swimming pool membranes are the perfect solution for quick renovation of swimming pools. A normal domestic swimming pool takes 2 to 3 days. This particular example took a little longer because of the added complication of the infinity edge.

Cracked & Leaking Pool repair and renovation, Sotogrande, Cadiz. The urbanisation of Sotogrande Alto is one of the most prestigious in Southern Spain, located near the popular Valderama golf and the town of Guadiaro and Castellar de la Frontera.

This is one of the most flawed pools that we have seen in a long time. The list of places that the pool was leaking from is quite comprehensive, considering that it is only 4 years old. We couldn’t believe that it held water, the maintenance team told us that the pool was using 30,000 litres of water per week. The water bills must have been in the thousands, as the hose filling it had to be left running constantly.

The first leak diagnosed was from the swimming pools hoover point. All of the pipes were bunched together and laid on top of building rubble. As the ground settled, a sharp point from a rock broke the pipe. Once the pipe started leaking, the tree roots worked their way into the area, making the leak worse. A local repair was almost impossible as all 4 pool pipes were touching each other, had 3 electrical pipes and 2 water pipes running along side and above. There simply was no space to make a repair, without cutting all the pipes. The solution was to make a bypass with new lengths of pipe.

The second leak was a broken skimmer. The pipe entering the bottom of the skimmer had cracked, again caused by the poor ground works, causing the soil to settle and put pressure on the pipe.

A third leak was found in the drain of the pool. The PVC fitting in the base of the pool was broken, allowing ground water to come up through it with the pool empty and allowing the pool to leak when full!

The fourth and most significant leak was from a crack running across the shallow end of the pool. Leaks in the plumbing can be repaired, but structural problems need a permanent solution.

On top of all of these problems, it was discovered that the pool structure was made using only 120mm of concrete, which was not very hard and had little steel in it for reinforcing. This explains why the pool had cracked.

Once the leaks in the pool’s pipes had been diagnosed and repaired, we could tackle the structure. We installed a Renolit AlkorPlan liner in Persia Blue. The structure is guaranteed to be leak free.

LED AstralPool par 56 lamps were the finishing touch, significantly reducing energy consumption.
