The renovation of this swimming pool in Monda, between Coin and Marbella in the province of Malaga, Spain is now finished and looking fantastic, thanks to the PiscinaLiner team and the excellent products from the leading manufacturer, Renolit. The AlkorPlan lining system is the “best skin for your pool”.

In this pool there were several leaks. The skimmer pipes were both leaking from damaged pipework due to the ground subsiding. The subsidence had also caused the swimming pool to crack both horizontally and vertically at the shallow end of the pool.

The decision was made by the client to tackle all of the swimming pool’s leaks and cracks in one go over the winter and leave the pool looking brand new for the arrival of guests in the Spring.

The first thing repaired was the leaking pipes. The terrace had to be excavated and cut up to get access to the pipework. As stamped concrete is impossible to repair to match the rest of the terrace, we built a new area for sun loungers, using rustic tiles that are the same as other terraces and compliment the pool surround.

Inside the pool we changed the fittings to be compatible with the Renolit AlkorPlan liner and did cosmetic repair to the cracks. The inside of the pool was thoroughly cleaned and the top profile installed. After this the reinforced liner is installed. It comes in rolls and is cut and then heat welded onsite, giving a smooth easy care finish, with no regrouting needed. The best part is the 10 year warranty against leaks! True peace of mind for the homeowner, knowing that the pool is properly repaired.

The colour of this liner was Persia Blue from the Renolit Alkorplan 3000 range.

Repair and Renovation of leaking cracked pool, Arboleas, Almeria, Spain

Another example of a beautifully transformed pool in Arboleas, nr Albox in Alméria, Southern Spain.

The original structure was very poorly built and had a lot of cracks. The pool was loosing water through the cracks at an alarming rate. It is doubtful whether the structure of the pool was even waterproof.

The pool had been tiled twice to try and stop the leaks, but putting tiles on top of tiles with no waterproofing is futile. Even if some type of waterproof render, such as Sika top had been used, the structure would still have failed as the cracks would continue to move. Repairing the cracks would have been impossible, as the walls of the pool would not have had enough strength to repair as the blocks were all hollow.

The original tiles were all stripped off. This is not necessary for a liner installation, as the walls need to be made flat afterwards. In this case the owner made the decision to remove the tiles as he wanted to see how bad the structural problems were.

The old pool surround was also looking quite tired, so this was removed. There were steps in the pool, but they took up a lot of room, so were also removed, not a problem as the pool is only 1.2m deep.

The first thing we did here was to make the walls and floor smooth, then we installed the fittings. The liner is then welded into place from rolls of Renolit AlkorPlan 3000. This colour was Persia Sand.

We finished the job off by installing new capping stones for the surround of the pool. The pool looks stunning and the whole project only took 3 1/2 days.

This pool between Turre and Mojacar, Almeria, was a typical DIY build by the previous owner of the house, although it looked nice, the pool structure was leaking through cracks in the floor and wall. The cracks were caused because the pool was not built from materials of sufficient strength. The pool has been built from concrete blocks and the waterproof rendered and tiled.

The owner of this swimming pool had spent a lot of money in the past on unsuccessful and some unneeded repairs. Water is becoming a scarce resource in some areas, so the cost of water to constantly fill a leaking pool has to be considered. This client decided that after the Summer, in the autumn months he would repair it once, properly.

We have installed an AlkorPlan liner to both renovate and waterproof the swimming pools structure. In addition, for peace of mind, the plumbing has all been changed. Although the pipes were not leaking, the client felt that after 15 years it was preventative maintenance, especially considering the way that the ground can move here.

White Reinforced Pool Liner, Gaucin, Malaga

This swimming pool had had several failed attempts at making the structure waterproof. The structure of the pool is cracked and leaks, which is a common problem with swimming pools in areas like Gaucin, Malaga, where the ground is subject to movement and the swimming pools are mostly built on hillsides.

The last repair that the swimming pool had, was to spray it with a product called polyurea. Although this is a good product, it is expensive and needs to be painted afterwards. In the case of this swimming pool, the paint kept fading or peeling off, leaving the pool looking awful.

The reinforced pool membrane from Renolit’s AlkorPlan 2000 range is guaranteed to make the pool watertight and is designed and tested to cope with the pool chemicals. It is a smooth surface that needs little maintenance other than normal cleaning.

This panel pool was installed 15 years ago, the kit liner had been leaking for some time. The kit liner is a very thin material that goes brittle in the sun and starts to wrinkle as it gets older. Sometimes it can get punctured just by cleaning.

Here we removed the old liner, checked the condition of all the gaskets and then installed the new liner. The light in the pool was found to be broken and couldn’t be reused, so we had to change it. All the rest of the fittings were in good condition.

The new liner is from the AlkorPlan 3000 range from Renolit and is guaranteed for 10 years. It is more than twice as thick as the original and reinforced with fibres and treated with lacquers to give a long life.

Marble colour is a great choice for large pools as gives plenty of impact, yet it’s random pattern gives life to the water.

A leaking swimming pool in a dry area needs to be fixed quickly, as water is a scarce resource.

This lovely swimming pool, in Casabermeja, Malaga, displays all of the typical problems of poorly built swimming pool and poorly executed repairs. The swimming pool has been constructed using a double wall of 10cm wide blocks, with a small cavity between, this cavity has been filled with concrete and 4mm steel mesh. The base of the pool is concrete, with 4mm mesh and only around 100mm thick.

Clearly the structure is not of sufficient strength to support the weight of water. A structure like this may be ok for an outbuilding or similar, but can’t cope with the forces of the weight of water. In comparison, a well built concrete pool would typically have a base and walls of 200mm reinforced, vibrated concrete with 10mm steel reinforcing at 200mm intervals (and still may crack).

Frankly, we were surprised that it was even possible to fill this pool with the amount of problems it had. In addition to the many unsuccessful attempts at crack repair, it was suspected (by a previous contractor) that the jet pipe was leaking and a bypass had been installed, but the pool continued to leak. To remove any chance of future problems, we installed a new jet pipe.
