The WaterAir pool system is very good, very well thought out, they are fast to install and when a change of liner is wanted, in this case, after 17 years, its quick and easy.

After 17 years, the owners of this pool decided that they wanted to make the pool look new again and fix some issues with the plumbing. The skimmers were broken, where the ground at the back of the pool had moved and the hoover point leaked, as the pipe ran under a tree, which in 17 years had grown a lot.

The original liner, although looking a bit tired, was still waterproof, a testament to the quality of the materials.

We took the opportunity to replace the 2 broken skimmers, as it easier after the old liner has been removed. The leaking hoover point was simply capped off, as the cost and disruption of lifting the terrace to put a new pipe was not worth it.

The new liner chosen is from RENOLITS fantastic new ALIVE range, in this case Prana.

The installation here took 3 days, including installing the new skimmers.

This swimming pool was leaking through the structure and the through the overflow system. Solving this type of leak using traditional methods would have required the pool to be completely reconstructed. This would have been a costly, lengthy and messy project.

Fortunately PiscinaLiner and the RENOLIT AlkorPlan family of products came to the rescue, curing the leak and totally renovating the pool in 7 days, at a much more economical price than the total reconstruction.

The leaks in the pool had been identified as a horizontal crack where the overflow connected to the pool. The overflow channel was also leaking. Access to the channel was not possible, without lifting all the marble.

We took the approach of installing 3 wide mouth skimmers and eliminating the overflow system. Then we installed the Renolit AlkorPlan reinforced membrane, this guarantees that the pool will not leak through the structure.

The colour chosen is TOUCH Authentic. The dark sandy tones give a beautiful turquoise green look, perfectly fitting in with the surroundings, for a truly unique swimming pool.

If you are planning to renovate your pool, don’t leave it until the last minute, start planning during summer and carry out the work in the autumn/winter, having the work done well ahead of when you want to use the pool, no last minute stress and panic. Although our swimming pool renovations are fast, there are many things beyond our control, in 2025 we lost nearly 8 weeks through rain, which had a knock on effect for installation dates.

Desjoyaux swimming pool systems are a French made prefabricated pool kit that uses panels bolted together, then filled with concrete to form the shell. The installations are quite fast. The filtration is quite an all in one system, as everything is self contained in a step that hangs from the side of the pool, there is no separate pump house.

The pools however do look cheap and prefabricated, especially when they get older, in this case the pool owner was badly advised by a builder to tile the pool, as the original installtion was looking tired. This created a couple of problems, one being that the tiles won’t stick to the plastic panels properly, as cement based glues don’t work well with plastic surfaces because of the oils in the plastic. The second more important issue is that the pool leaks! The structure was never designed to be waterproof, so if tiled on top of, it will leak.

The filtration unit was looking terrible. So we came up with an innovative solution to make the pool look as good as possible, in an economical manner. The owner wanted a traditional filter box dug into the corner of the terrace and jets plumbed installed in one end of the pool and a skimmer in the other. This would have meant huge works, digging up the terrace to pass pipes through etc.

Our solution was to install a filter skimmer and one jet with a purpose made pump. All of this equipment fits in the small box level with the pool surround. The filter unit is hidden in the base of the skimmer. The filtration is highly efficient, as the jet low down, near the floor of the pool forces the whole body of water to spin so very little hoovering of the pool is needed.

We also built a bench/step in the pool. Full steps all the way down were not possible, because they would have taken too much room from the pool.

The main colour of the pool is Persia Sand from the Renolit AlkorPlan 3000 range, with TOUCH Sublime for the treads. The result is a pool that looks like it has been thought about, rather than a kit just put in place.

Painted swimming pool renovation and refurbishment

Old swimming pools that were originally painted, like this one in La Linea, Cadiz, require maintenance every year or so. The pool has to be drained and repainted nearly every season. The repeated painting of the pool results in the surfaces starting to flake. In this case the swimming pool filter was blocked with paint flakes and the sand had to be changed.

This continuos maintenance to keep the pool looking nice is costly in terms of the amount of water used and costly because of the labour needed every time to repaint.

To renovate or reform a painted swimming pool, there are really only 2 options.

Pool Tiling

The first is tiling. In order to tile with glass mosaic tiles, the pool must be sandblasted in order to remove all the old paint. This creates a huge amount of mess and other problems.

Once the paint has been sand blasted, the render below can be damaged, requiring remedial work to repair. The other problem that is often overlooked (and often missed to cut costs), is that the paint was actually sealing the structure, it is imperative that the structure is treated with a waterproofing layer before tiling, or it will most likely leak.

Painted pools were often built cheaply in the first place or were originally water deposits (hence the choice of paint as the finish). When a pool was built in an economic way, probably not using reinforced concrete, it is impossible to tell how well it was built, so it is difficult to know if it will have structural problems in the future.

All of these processes are costly and messy, probably taking a couple of weeks start to finish.

Puerto Serrano is a small village situated Northwest of Ronda, between Arcos de la Frontera and Moron de la Frontera. Although in Cadiz, it is very close to the borders of Malaga and Sevilla provinces in Andalucia.

This swimming pool started life as a water deposit, but had several refurbishments and modifications throughout its life.

Originally the water deposit was painted and much shallower. The walls of the pool were built up and skimmers and jets were added to allow the water to be filtered and be used as a swimming pool.

Around 8 years ago, the pool was tiled and the new capping stones fitted, as can be seen in the pictures. We were called in to carry out the final refurbishment, as the tiles were starting to fall off and the owners were worried about the possibility of future leaks because of previous structural works.

Will I be able to fit the pool border myself?

Will the swimming pool border fade in the sun?

No. All our swimming pool borders have a specially formulated protective coating that includes an advanced Ultraviolet filter. The filter prevents Ultravoilet (UV) light from reaching the vinyl surface of the swimming pool border.

Will the swimming pool border fall off?

No. All our swimming pool borders have an adhesive that’s been designed to be used in a normal swimming pool environment. Don’t worry about the border getting wet or being exposed to strong sunlight, it will not peel off or come unstuck.

There’s two different answers here, depending on which size of pool border you buy. 150mm (6in) border – lower the water level about 200mm (8in). 250mm (10in) border – lower the water level about 300mm (12in).

Do I need to get into the swimming pool to fit the border?

You can if you want to… but it’s very easy to fit from outside the pool – that’s the way we do it.

How do I clean the swimming pool border?

Gently!! All you need to do is dip a soft sponge or cloth into the swimming pool water and give the border a gentle wipe over. That’s it – no scrubbing!

How long does it take to deliver?

Delivery times vary depending on what part of the world you live in. If there’s a special occasion you really want to have your pool looking good for – we recommend you allow 15 working days from placing your order till it arrives with you.

How long will the swimming pool border last for?

Cracked & Leaking Pool repair and renovation, Sotogrande, Cadiz. The urbanisation of Sotogrande Alto is one of the most prestigious in Southern Spain, located near the popular Valderama golf and the town of Guadiaro and Castellar de la Frontera.

This is one of the most flawed pools that we have seen in a long time. The list of places that the pool was leaking from is quite comprehensive, considering that it is only 4 years old. We couldn’t believe that it held water, the maintenance team told us that the pool was using 30,000 litres of water per week. The water bills must have been in the thousands, as the hose filling it had to be left running constantly.

The first leak diagnosed was from the swimming pools hoover point. All of the pipes were bunched together and laid on top of building rubble. As the ground settled, a sharp point from a rock broke the pipe. Once the pipe started leaking, the tree roots worked their way into the area, making the leak worse. A local repair was almost impossible as all 4 pool pipes were touching each other, had 3 electrical pipes and 2 water pipes running along side and above. There simply was no space to make a repair, without cutting all the pipes. The solution was to make a bypass with new lengths of pipe.

The second leak was a broken skimmer. The pipe entering the bottom of the skimmer had cracked, again caused by the poor ground works, causing the soil to settle and put pressure on the pipe.

A third leak was found in the drain of the pool. The PVC fitting in the base of the pool was broken, allowing ground water to come up through it with the pool empty and allowing the pool to leak when full!

The fourth and most significant leak was from a crack running across the shallow end of the pool. Leaks in the plumbing can be repaired, but structural problems need a permanent solution.

On top of all of these problems, it was discovered that the pool structure was made using only 120mm of concrete, which was not very hard and had little steel in it for reinforcing. This explains why the pool had cracked.

Once the leaks in the pool’s pipes had been diagnosed and repaired, we could tackle the structure. We installed a Renolit AlkorPlan liner in Persia Blue. The structure is guaranteed to be leak free.

The swimming pool has been built from sprayed concrete with steel reinforcing. The walls were rendered glass smooth, ready for the liner as the final finish. Inside the pool, we have also constructed benches as seating, giving the clients a place to relax in the swimming pool with a cold drink!

The capping is cast white concrete, a non slip finish, which is cool underfoot in Summer.

The total construction time for this project was 2.5 weeks, from breaking ground to filling the pool.

The Dutch client chose to the Renolit AlkorPlan lining, because of it’s low maintenance and guaranteed waterproof qualities. In most of Europe, an AlkorPlan liner is the default choice for a pool finish.

Later, the garden landscaping company will finish the garden with new turf and plants.

If you are thinking of building a pool, the planning needs to be started in September as the permissions etc need to be applied for. There’s no point waiting until 3 weeks before you are planning to use it!
