Fibreglass Swimming Pool Renovation, Almeria, Spain

Prefabricated fiber glass or polyester pools can start to look worse for wear over time. Many swimming pool owners will try to renovate the swimming pool using paint, recoating with gelcoat and so on, with varying degrees of success.

When a fiberglass swimming pool is painted, the paint often peels off, as the goat layer of the pool has paraffin in it. This oily composition makes it almost impossible for the paint to stick. So it peels off, leaving the pool looking worse than before.

The second method is to apply a layer of new gelcoat, but this won’t stick directly to the surface, it needs a layer of polyester resin first. The gelcoat also looks patchy after a few years because of differences in the quantities of each batch.

So what is the solution to refurbishing your fibreglass GRP prefabricated swimming pool?

Using our range of RENOLIT AlkorPlan reinforced pool liners is the most beautiful and longest lasting method. It forms to most shapes and truly gives the swimming pool a luxury look. The liner can be put over blistered pools or ones with cracks in the gelcoat. These areas can become sharp and cut feet.

For this pool we used RENOLIT AlkorPlan ALIVE, in colour PRANA. It’s green tones give a tropical look and fit in well with most surroundings.

If you are planning to renovate your pool, start planning in September, that way any delays caused by weather, power cuts etc won’t cause stress closer to the swimming season. In 2025 we had nearly 8 weeks delay caused by all the rain.
