The pool had the typical problems relating to a painted pool. The paint was flaking, patchy and altogether just looked run down. There are other options than using an AlkorPlan membrane, but they are costly, messy and probably not guaranteed.

The first alternative is to tile the pool, but the pool will need to be sandblasted first to remove all the traces of paint, or the adhesive would not stick properly. This is very messy. Once the pool is sandblasted, it needs to be rendered with a waterproof cement, such as sikatop or masterseal. Then the pool can be tiled.

The second option is to fibreglass line the pool, but it pretty much leaves the swimming pool looking the same, just longer lasting.

The third and most sensible option is to install a reinforced pool membrane from Renolit. It can pretty much be applied directly over the existing paint. The fittings in the pool have to be changed for liner compatible ones. The liner installation takes around 2 days.
