Pool leak repair and renovation, Mijas, nr Fuengirola. The pool is located in the well established urbanisation of Cerros de Aguila, which is close to Mijas Golf, the Hipodromo, La Cala, Mijas and Fuengirola.

A typical pool, requiring both structural repair and cosmetic renovation. The pool suffered from leaks in the structure from a horizontal crack running along one side of the structure. We believe the cause of this pool leak to be from the way that the terrace was constructed. At the side of the pool there is a 4m high retaining wall, a space of around 1.5m and then the pool wall. The terrace has been tied to both the retaining wall and the pool wall, as the retaining wall has moved very very slightly (maybe only a few millimetres), it has pulled on the wall of the pool, causing the horizontal crack. Concrete is very strong, but has no flexibility, so with forces like this something has to give.

Without massive structural works, including demolition of the terrace and pool surround, it would be impossible to rectify this, as the forces acting on the retaining wall are far more powerful than any repair to the pool structure could cope with.

The solution to this type of cracked and leaking swimming pool problem, is to install the fantastic reinforced pool membrane from Renolit. Not only does this look fantastic, but also guarantees that the pool will be waterproof regardless of the problems in the structure.

The second problem with the pool was that the drain was leaking, because of ingress of roots from a nearby tree. To stop this it was blocked up with concrete. Normally with a liner pool a drain is not necessary, but in this case the client wanted the drain to be working, the simplest solution was to install a new one, with all new pipe rather than spending time looking for the source of the initial leak and unblocking the pipe.

The pool is finished in Persia Sand from the Renolit AlkorPlan 3000 range, which perfectly compliments the colour of the house. For the steps, we used a non slip, natural stone effect lining.

For improved running costs, an AstralPool par56 LED bulb was fitted.

This pool will be trouble free for many years to come.
