A steel pool is a type of prefabricated swimming pool system, that creates the walls from steel panels that are bolted together. The base of the pool is made from a weak sand cement mix. This is then lined with a very thin factory produced bag liner, which does not have the durability of a reinforced AlkorPlan liner.

Our Swedish clients recently purchased this house in Torremolinos, near to the port in Benalmadena. The house and swimming pool are in need of renovation, having little maintenance in the last 20 years.

The swimming pool is in poor condition and has a couple of leaks. There was one leak due to a broken skimmer bucket. The second leak in the swimming pool was from a crack in the prefabricated steps. As part of our pool lining process, we normally line the steps to prevent leaks due to the steps breaking and there can be leaks in the seal between the steps and the liner (as this is a part unique to the original pool and has to be reused). Lining the steps also gives the pool a really fresh modern look.

The liner used in this pool is the beautiful Persia Sand from the Renolit AlkorPlan 3000 range and for the tread on the steps we have used membrane from the Touch range, which emulates natural stone and is non slip. This fits in very well with the sand coloured surround.

In addition, we installed new filtration equipment in the far side of the garden, away from the terrace. The original filtration equipment was taking a lot of space up on the patio next to the pool, moving it increases patio space and also reduces the noise next to the pool area. The difficulty with this is sourcing the same tiles if the pool and terrace are quite old.

An AstralPool par 56 LED bulb was fitted, which reduces the electrical consumption from 300w to 24w. These bulbs also last much longer than standard halogen bulbs.

A pool with no structural leaks. The pool had a leak from the drain, but this had been sealed off years ago. In this case, the client wanted a swimming pool that was easy to care for, without the constant maintenance required by a tiled pool (regrouting, replacing missing tiles, filing sharp edges etc).

Being German, our client was very familiar with Renolit and their range of AlkorPlan pool linings. Renolit is a Multinational family owned company based in Germany, but with manufacturing facilities worldwide. The swimming pool products (along with other waterproofing) are manufactured at their plant in Sant Celoni, near Barcelona.

To make a complete renovation, a new pool surround was installed to replace the old rustic tiles. We then installed a new drain pipe, which we could hide in the wall of the pool. All of the skimmers, lights, jets and other fittings in the pool were changed to be compatible with the reinforced pool membrane.

Geotextile was bonded to the walls and floor. This is not really needed, but gives a superior finish, much like underlay for carpet. Over this, the pool liner is installed by welding sheets together.

The treads on the steps are covered with a non slip material for safety.

I think you can agree that the results are stunning.

Our Norwegian clients have owned this house in Fuengirola, Malaga for many years and the pool has had several repairs made to cracks in the structure. Typically none of these repairs had been successful, with the cracks reappearing. This is expensive, both in the wasted labour and water to refill the pool after each repair.

The problems with this pool cracking and leaking finally got to the point that something had to be done after there was an earthquake in the area. This earthquake caused minor damage to many houses in the Mijas area. After the earthquake hit, the cracks in the pool opened again and water could be seen coming out of the wall at the back of the pool.

The owner chose Renolit AlkorPlan liner as the solution for a couple of reasons. The first is the guarantee of waterproofing from the manufacturer. The second reason was that the pool was due to be renovated, so the installation of the Persia Sand liner was a good cosmetic choice. The final reason was that the clients’ brother has a house in the North of Italy, where earthquakes are common. His liner is over 15 years old and still looking good, so our client was more than confident in the manufacturers claims of durability and the 10 year warranty.

With this pool, the first step was to change the fittings, such as the skimmer, jets and drain to be liner comapitible. Then we installed the liner, which is Renolit AlkorPlan 3000 in Persia Sand. This gives the water a beautiful turquoise colour. For the non slip finish on the steps, we used “Touch” range, which looks and feels like natural stone.

We are very proud of the results here and more importantly, our client is very happy!

The renovation of this swimming pool in Monda, between Coin and Marbella in the province of Malaga, Spain is now finished and looking fantastic, thanks to the PiscinaLiner team and the excellent products from the leading manufacturer, Renolit. The AlkorPlan lining system is the “best skin for your pool”.

In this pool there were several leaks. The skimmer pipes were both leaking from damaged pipework due to the ground subsiding. The subsidence had also caused the swimming pool to crack both horizontally and vertically at the shallow end of the pool.

The decision was made by the client to tackle all of the swimming pool’s leaks and cracks in one go over the winter and leave the pool looking brand new for the arrival of guests in the Spring.

The first thing repaired was the leaking pipes. The terrace had to be excavated and cut up to get access to the pipework. As stamped concrete is impossible to repair to match the rest of the terrace, we built a new area for sun loungers, using rustic tiles that are the same as other terraces and compliment the pool surround.

Inside the pool we changed the fittings to be compatible with the Renolit AlkorPlan liner and did cosmetic repair to the cracks. The inside of the pool was thoroughly cleaned and the top profile installed. After this the reinforced liner is installed. It comes in rolls and is cut and then heat welded onsite, giving a smooth easy care finish, with no regrouting needed. The best part is the 10 year warranty against leaks! True peace of mind for the homeowner, knowing that the pool is properly repaired.

The colour of this liner was Persia Blue from the Renolit Alkorplan 3000 range.
