This very old pool was cracked and leaking, about 12 years ago it was sealed using fibreglass matting and polyester resin. Like most fibreglass over tile repairs, the gelcoat layer breaks down and the pool starts to look very scruffy.

As the fiberglass is hand applied, the finish looks similar to a pool that has been painted. The gelcoat also becomes patchy, as it is hand mixed, so each batch will have a slightly different consistency, causing it to degrade at different rates over time. This is particularly evident in pools that have been finished in blue.

The owners wanted the pool to look its best for the coming season and made the wise decision to renovate the swimming pool using Renolit AlkorPlan 3000 Persia Blue.

The first part of the process is to install the new fittings inside the pool. Lights, jets, skimmers and drains all need to be made compatible with the liner system.

This swimming pool was badly built and had leaks from both the structure and the plumbing lines. The owner had had the plumbing lines tested, so knew that the pipes for the skimmers, jets, hoover socket and drain were all good.

Our part of the project was to stop the structure of the pool leaking in a way that was guaranteed. To do this, we installed the fantastic Renolit AlkorPlan Persia Sand liner, with non slip steps. The liner is both the waterproofing and cosmetic finish of the pool. It is manufacturer guaranteed for 10 years against leaks, giving the homeowner peace of mind that the problem is solved.

The first part of the process is to change or modify the accessories in the pool to be liner compatible. Skimmers are adapted using a patented Renolit manufactured part, all other fittings are substituted. This work is done from inside the pool, minimising disruption.

After this, the alkormetal profile is installed. This is an aluminium plate that is the top fixing for the liner. It is not visible once the installation is completed. The aluminium plate is covered in thermoplastic, the liner is then heat welded to it.

The Renolit AlkorPlan reinforced swimming pool membrane is so thick that it is supplied on rolls, then heat welded onsite.

This swimming pool is being completely refurbished as part of the villa renovations. The building team has installed all new plumbing, capping stones and rendered the inside of the pool. The depth of the pool has been reduced.

We see many leaking swimming pools with cracked structures. The causes for the cracks are usually poor construction or the ground being unstable.

We initially started using reinforced liners nearly 20 years ago as a solution for leaking swimming pool structures. Once the pool structure has cracked, the forces involved are enormous, then add to this the pressure of the water and you start to realise that filling a crack with something, or stapling the concrete will never be as strong as the original. If the original structure failed, then a patch will fail. Making these kind of patch repairs resulted in an unhappy client and an unhappy contractor.

We started using the Renolit AlkorPlan system, as no matter what method used to repair cracks, many of them failed a few months after or a couple of years after. Clients had tried sika repair mortar, silicone, carbon fibre staples, steel staples, flexible cements etc. We needed something guaranteed.

The Renolit AlkorPlan liner is guaranteed* waterproof for 10 years. It is a triple layer PVC laminate, reinforced with a polyester mesh. It remains a permanently flexible decorative waterproof skin inside the pool structure. It is a solution often recommended by architects.

In this case the pool is built on a raised plot, with a retaining wall, with trees around. Some of the trees were removed during renovation work. In all probability, once the roots shrunk, the ground became unstable.

We have installed Renolit TOUCH Authentic in this unusually shaped swimming pool, for a stunning look. The installation took our 3 man team approximately 18 hours.
