When a swimming pool has tipped, it can be tricky to repair. By tipped, we refer to a pool that has subsided and dropped at one end or in one corner. This is usually because the ground was poorly prepared. The weight of the pool sinks at its heaviest point, normally the deep end. The swimming pool can also crack when this happens.
There is only really one way of solving this problem. Once the pool has sunk, if it doesn’t move any more after a year or so, it is unlikely to move more. The surround of the pool is removed, if skimmers are too low, they can be moved to the correct position and made level. The walls are built up to be level and then a new pool surround installed and the terrace repaired. The inside of the pool is then refinished.
The problem with repairing the pool like this is that it can be susceptible to leaks after from a few places. One is the plumbing, as this may have been stressed when the pool moved. The second place is through the light conduits. These come up above the water line, but if they have dropped with the swimming pool structure, they will leak after as they are below the new waterline.
The most important area where the pool can leak is in the joint where the walls have been built up, as there are 2 different structures moving at different rates.

Repairing a swimming pool with subsidence, using the Renolit AlkorPlan reinforced pool liner is more economical, as a local builder with no specialist knowledge can make the pool level, ready for the installation of the liner. Using a traditional method, new concrete would have to be poured and bonded to the old structure, then the pool waterproofed and tiled, still leaving the risk that the joint could fail.
In this case, the homeowner did all of the remedial work himself, levelling the pool and replacing the surround. We installed the new fittings and the liner.
