These kind of glass fiber pools are a very quick way to install a swimming pool and are generally long lasting, but like everything, after many years of use, they will need cosmetic refurbishment.

Prefabricated fibre glass or polyester pools are difficult to renovate using traditional methods. Painting them doesn’t work, as the gelcoat contains paraffin gel, so paint just won’t stick. They can be recoated with gelcoat, but the always end up looking patchy, as there are minute variations in the quantities of the resin and hardener, so the chlorine attacks it at different speeds.

Holiday rentals are a business and if something goes wrong with the pool, it needs to be repaired as quickly as possible to avoid downtime and loss of revenue.

Maintenance and renovation works should be planned to be carried out as soon as the pool is no longer being used. In this situation, the pool had a slow leak through a horizontal crack where the terrace had been raised, you can see the roots from the trees growing through it.

Suddenly the pool started to loose a lot of water, as the skimmer pipe broke in the ground. Something needed to be done quickly, as the villa is rented virtually all year round. The opportunity was taken to repair the leak and renovate the pool in one process.

The work here took 4 days from start to being refilled. We broke out the skimmers from inside of the pool structure and raised them, avoiding disturbing the artificial grass and terrace. We channelled new pipes in the wall and passed them through to the pump house on the other side of the wall. This type of repair is only possible with Renolit Alkorplans reinforced membrane system.

The installation of the reinforced membrane ensures that the structure of the pool is waterproof, so the horizontal crack in the pool structure was also dealt with.

The final result is a newly renovated, beautiful, leak free pool, in just 4 days.

This swimming pool was leaking through the structure and the through the overflow system. Solving this type of leak using traditional methods would have required the pool to be completely reconstructed. This would have been a costly, lengthy and messy project.

Fortunately PiscinaLiner and the RENOLIT AlkorPlan family of products came to the rescue, curing the leak and totally renovating the pool in 7 days, at a much more economical price than the total reconstruction.

The leaks in the pool had been identified as a horizontal crack where the overflow connected to the pool. The overflow channel was also leaking. Access to the channel was not possible, without lifting all the marble.

We took the approach of installing 3 wide mouth skimmers and eliminating the overflow system. Then we installed the Renolit AlkorPlan reinforced membrane, this guarantees that the pool will not leak through the structure.

The colour chosen is TOUCH Authentic. The dark sandy tones give a beautiful turquoise green look, perfectly fitting in with the surroundings, for a truly unique swimming pool.

This swimming pool has been beautifully renovated and repaired in just a couple of days. The structure of the pool was leaking through horizontal cracks in the structure.

This was an interesting situation for us. We first looked at the pool 3 years ago to quote the new owner for renovating the pool (he didn’t know that the pool leaked or would leak). At this time, we pointed out the horizontal cracks, where at some point the new terrace had ben built on top of the pool wall. This is a common error in renovating a terrace and pool area. For the builder it is easier to do it this way, rather than remove the old terrace and build the new one at the same height as the pool.

Our advise to the client was, whatever he chose to do, don’t tile it, because it will leak. We say this with no bias, we are busy all year round and he could have explored other options.

After finishing renovations on the house, his builders tackled the terrace and pool. They tiled the terrace and then others came and tiled the pool. The pool was filled up ready for the summer….. a few weeks later it leaked. The pool was drained, the cracks were cut out and treated, thinking that the problem was solved for the next summer. Guess what happened next? The pool leaked again a few months after being filled.

Cut to the future, the owner called us again for us to install the reinforced liner. He admitted his mistake and realised that it would have been far more economical to have done the work once and installed the reinforced Renolit pool membrane in the first place and have peace of mind that the pool structure would have been guaranteed waterproof, instead of paying to drain pool, tile the pool, drain the pool, repair cracks and drain again a third time.

Installing a reinforced swimming pool liner in Mojácar, Almería, involves several key steps to ensure a durable and watertight finish, particularly given the region’s hot and dry climate. The process begins with careful preparation of the pool’s structure.

1. Preparation of the Pool Area:
The pool must be cleaned and the surface thoroughly inspected. Any debris, sharp objects, or irregularities in the pool shell need to be removed or repaired. For existing pools, this might include filling cracks or smoothing out rough areas. It’s important that the pool’s surface is level.

2. Measurement and Customization of the Liner:
A custom-fit reinforced liner is crucial for a proper installation. Accurate measurements of the pool’s dimensions (length, width, and depth) are taken. The reinforced liner is made from PVC with polyester reinforcing, designed to withstand high UV exposure, which is vital in the sun-drenched region of Almeria.

The final step includes trimming excess liner, ensuring all edges are neatly finished, cutting in the fittings, then the pool is ready to be refilled with water.

5. Testing and Maintenance:
Regular maintenance is required to keep the liner in good condition, we provide comprehensive guidelines to ensure that the pool stays looking its best.

This swimming pool had been leaking for many years through cracks in the structure of the pool. The owner had had a reinforced liner fitted at his previous pool, so he knew that it was the perfect choice.

In this installation, we found that some of the fittings in the pool were iron, so we took the opportunity to pass new pipes through the wall of the pool to the adjacent pump room.
