Fibreglass pool renovation, Puerto Banus, Marbella. Fiberglass prefabricated swimming pools are made in a factory using a mould. The glass fibre matt is laminated with polyester resin to make a strong semi flexible swimming pool. The top coat is usually Gelcoat to give the colour.

These types of prefabricated GRP fibreglass pools have a finite life. After a couple of decades of use, the colour starts to fade, or blisters appear in the top coat, or the top coat starts to peal away.

There are a couple of ways to resolve this, one is to reapply a layer of fibre glass and resin, then finish with a top coat, but this leaves the pool looking like it has been painted.

Some clients put their trust in builders to tile the pool. Tiling a fibreglass pool just does not work, as the base is both oily and flexible. Tile adhesive and tiles are rigid, so the 2 are not compatible. The tiles just fall off.

Here we had to strip off the existing tiles, sand the original shell to make it smooth. The fittings inside the pool were adapted to be compatible with the Renolit AlkorPlan liner and we removed any unnecessary fittings inside the pool, leaving a cleaner finish and less places for the pool to potentially leak, as some of the pipes are hidden inside the terrace. There was also pre-installation for a swim pump, which could never be connected as there was no access to the pipes.

Here the chosen finish was Renolit CERAMICS ATENEA. A 2.0mm thick PVC reinforced membrane, which has the look and feel of tiles, whilst being permanently flexible.

This is the second pool we have done for the same client, as you can see the results are stunning.
